Moving packing tips
Without further delay, here is our list of the best packing
tips for your move!
Sufficient moving boxes and filling material
We regularly receive a stress call the day before a move.
"We are not going to make it with the moving boxes. Now what?". We
are certainly not the worst, and we like to drop by, but it often creates
stress, while you can prevent it. You have more stuff than you think. So make
sure you also buy or rent enough moving boxes.
You should also not underestimate the amount of filling
material you need. Filling material ensures that stuff doesn't slide and your
tableware stays whole 😉.
Pack moving boxes by room
Everything that is now in your bathroom will soon also be in
your new bathroom. The same goes for the kitchen, living room and bedroom. You
can save yourself a lot of gray hair by putting everything that will soon be
together in the same room together in the moving box. Of course, that doesn't
all fit in one box. But you can label all the boxes.
For example, work with color codes (yellow = kitchen, red =
bedroom, etc.) Or write on the label what is in the box or in which room it
comes from.
Pack clothes
Many people find packing clothes a tedious task. Take
everything off the hook, fold it neatly, and pack it well. It takes a lot of
time, and clothing often takes up a lot of space. With the following packing
tips, you will save a lot of time and space during your upcoming move.
Roll-up clothes: By rolling up your clothes, you save a lot
of space when packing. For example, if you use a trolley to transport your
clothes, it will fit almost twice as much. Also handy for when you go on
vacation, of course!
Put garbage bags on your clothes: Clothes that are on
clothes hangers do not necessarily have to be removed from the hanger. You can
also pack all the hangers together so that you have a bunch and put a garbage
bag around it. This way, you can put the clothes directly in your moving van.
Pack electrical equipment for moving
Let's face it. There's nothing more frustrating than having
to untangle a whole bunch of cables. Therefore pack your cables per bag. Just
roll up your cable and put it in a ziplock bag or sandwich bag. Are you so of
the whining? And before you forget whether that short thick cable belonged to
your TV or that long thin one, just take a picture with your phone while it's
all still connected. Will save again soon!
With your TV, make sure that the screen is well-covered! You
can possibly wrap a bath towel around it. That can prevent a lot of scratches.
Moving fragile items
It is best to pack fragile items such as glasses, cups or
another crockery with wrapping paper or towels. Why towels? 1. They have to go
anyway 2. This way, you don't have to buy wrapping paper if you don't have it
lying around. Your wallet is happy, and so is Mother Nature.
Another tip is not to put all your crockery in one moving
box or crate. Firstly, this will make your moving box too heavy, which can
cause it to fall apart and secondly, if it falls, at least you won't lose all
your crockery.
Seal bathroom items with foil
Shampoo, conditioner, creams, lotion, nail polish remover.
Anything that can leak is best transported in a ziplock bag or other plastic
bag. You want to prevent a dirty, slimy mess over all your other furniture or
belongings during your move at all costs. Otherwise, the fun of the day will
quickly turn around!
Jewelry, screws and other annoying little things
Little things are most at risk of being lost. Therefore,
make sure that you keep small items together. For example, it is useful if you
make sure that you put all your screws together in a bag when dismantling your
furniture.
Jewelry is best kept in a jewelry box. If you don't have
one, that's, of course, a useless packing tip. Fortunately, you can always hang
out and pack your jewelry more safely with the following home, garden and
kitchen items:
·
Stick your earrings to the piece of cardboard
(possibly from a leftover moving box 😜)
·
Thread chains through a straw or toilet roll, so
they don't get tangled.
·
Put small earrings in a pill box or keep them in
a toothbrush case
Store bracelets and watches in a ziplock bag
Do you come across other small things while packing, such as
charging cables, old cards or spare keys for your car or bicycle? Put it all
together in a ziplock bag or other (transparent) plastic bag. It is best to
store all these smaller bags in a special box or backpack. This way, you can be
sure that nothing is left behind.
Wrap cabinets with foil
This packing tip works great against scratches on your
cupboard. We always wrap cabinets ourselves with furniture sealer. This is
slightly thicker, so you don't have to wrap it around your cupboard as often as
normal cling film. This one also does the trick. You will have to pack your
closet quite a bit.
Did you know that you can also order protective packaging material
from Britwrap? Here you can buy all high-quality packaging for a do-it-yourself
price.
Think of a box for the first day
Here is a small overview of what you like to unpack on the
first day and what you can use during your moving day:
·
The coffee machine.
·
A sandwich or something else to eat, hard work
makes you hungry!
·
The keys to your new home are very handy…
·
Glasses, cups or plastic/paper cups to drink
something from.
·
Your toiletry bag.
·
A roll of toilet paper.
Pack lamps
Lamps can also sometimes be a pain in the A$$ when you move.
That's because lamps come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes. When packing
your lamp, you must detach the lampshade and the bulb. It is best to transport
these in a separate moving box. It is best to wrap the standard of your lamp in
foil for large floor lamps and wrap smaller lamps, such as desk lamps, in a
towel.
Pack white goods and move
Fridges, dryers, washing machines. They are often expensive
items in your household—reason enough to be extra careful. For example, with
your refrigerator and washing machine, make sure you switch them off for at
least 24 hours before moving them. You can use a chilled
packaging box as an alternative to store your items temporarily.
Packaging is the most important part when relocating commercial and residential. So it is essential to buy quality packing material, bubble wrapping, moving boxes, tapes, etc.
